Having a business can be hard work, but growing your business is even harder. As a business owner, no matter the product or service, you are always looking for ways to improve work. However, sometimes, in the process, we forget to take the simplest of steps, that are right in front of us.
Here are 5 sure-fire, simple steps you can take to grow your business.
1. Be friendly
This one might be obvious, but when you’re trying to grow a business, all the things you have to cover can make you forget this essential thing: being friendly with the customers.
It doesn’t matter if you’re selling a product or a service, you need to make the customer like you and feel like they can trust you. You can’t do that without being friendly. This also goes for when you’re hiring someone to join your team. Make sure to hire friendly people as your customer-facing staff.
2. Have your contact information available
Another one that might seem simple, but is in fact, quite forgotten about: make sure that people can find your contact information easily. Whether it is a phone number or an email address, the customer should have them at the tip of their finger at all times.
If they have to dig deep to reach you, chances are they will give up and go to your competitor.
The best places to have your contact information available are:
- Your website (have a special section for it, but also have it in your footer at all times)
- Your social media platforms (all of them)
- Your Google my business page (if they google you, you want them to find you easily, right?)

3. Stay open longer
This applies mostly to offline businesses like stores or restaurants, but even if you are a digital business, you could have a longer schedule for customer support.

4. Offer free or heavily discounted products and services
You want to keep your customer happy, right? Why not give them free stuff?
If you are a cafe, for example, you could offer a card for purchases. Once they buy a number of beverages from you, they can get one free.
This not only will make them feel like they got a deal, but it will also make them come back and buy more from you. Plus, you might even get a FREE mention on social media from them, since people usually share deals among them.
5. Keep it humble
Don’t get too satisfied with your business. There's always room for improvement. This doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy your success and relish at the moment, but don’t let it get to your head.
Always stay on your toes and keep surprising your clients with new things, whether are new products, services, or updates. Getting too comfortable with their businesses lead many to downfall and bankruptcy. Don’t become one of them.
